A transparent background is not a white background. Each pixel in a suitable PNG can include alpha information that controls its opacity. 1. Start with an image that fits the method

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP where the background reaches the corners and differs from the subject. Keep the source image unchanged. If the subject touches every corner, shares the same color as the backdrop, or contains translucent material, plan to use a manual mask.

2. Adjust tolerance before feathering

Load the image in the browser tool and begin near the sample setting. Raise tolerance when background patches remain; lower it when the subject begins to disappear. Add feathering only after the cutout boundary is correct, because a soft edge cannot restore pixels removed by an overly broad tolerance.

3. Inspect the edge on three surfaces

A checkerboard verifies that transparent pixels exist. White reveals dark or gray fringes; black reveals pale halos. Zoom in on corners, shadows, thin handles, and gaps inside the subject. If a flaw appears on only one surface, it will still appear when the asset is placed in a layout with that color.

4. Download PNG, not JPEG

Download the approved result as PNG. Converting that cutout to JPEG removes alpha transparency and fills the empty area with a solid color. Keep the transparent master, then create flattened JPEG copies only for destinations that explicitly require them.

5. Test the destination before publishing

Place the PNG in the real store card, slide, thumbnail, or design canvas. Confirm that the platform has not converted it to JPEG and that the edge survives at delivery size. If you later resize it, start from the approved transparent master rather than a flattened copy.

6. Use another editor when the evidence fails

Stop when important subject pixels vanish or the background remains tangled with the edge. A manual selection, layer mask, or specialized segmentation tool gives more control than repeatedly raising tolerance.
