PNG workflow

Upscale Transparent PNG

Enlarge a transparent logo, sticker, or cutout without filling its empty pixels. This workflow uses the local image upscaler, keeps PNG selected, and checks the downloaded file before it goes into a design.

Reproduce the examples

Download each source and compare your result with the actual tool output. The colored display surface is behind the PNG; it is not added to the downloadable file.

1. Confirm the source is really transparent

A PNG extension does not guarantee a transparent image. Open the original in the transparent PNG checker and look for fully transparent or partially transparent pixels. A checkerboard painted into the artwork is opaque image content; resizing will enlarge that pattern too. Keep the original file so you can compare the output without relying on a preview app’s white background.

2. Choose the size before processing

Open the image upscaler and choose a PNG under 20 MB. The source dimensions and proposed output dimensions appear beside the controls. Select 2x for double width and height, or 4x for four times each dimension. A 128 × 128 source becomes 256 × 256 or 512 × 512. Output must stay within 8,192 pixels per side and 40 million pixels overall; choose a smaller scale if the tool reports a limit.

3. Keep PNG selected for the download

Choose PNG in Download format, then press the Upscale image button. In this workflow PNG uses a canvas with transparency enabled. JPEG instead fills the canvas with white before drawing the source, so switching to JPEG deliberately flattens the empty areas. Use PNG when the artwork must sit on more than one background color.

4. Understand what the enlargement changes

This tool resamples the existing image in your browser; it does not run an AI reconstruction model or recover missing detail. Smoothing may introduce intermediate alpha values around an edge. Keeping transparency means preserving an alpha-capable output, not copying every source alpha value unchanged into a larger grid. For a logo that already has a vector original, exporting that original at the target size is usually the more controlled workflow.

5. Reproduce the transparent sample

Download the 128 × 128 source below and run it through the linked upscaler with PNG selected. The blue frame has a transparent center, and the green strip is partly transparent. The actual 2x and 4x downloads below both retain transparent corner and center pixels, plus partially transparent pixels. These are synthetic diagnostic shapes, not customer artwork or proof that every source will look sharper.

6. Check the result against the destination

Download the result and reopen it in the PNG checker. Check it over white, dark, and checkerboard surfaces, then inspect it at the size you will actually publish. A pale fringe already baked into opaque edge pixels can survive enlargement; resampling is not background removal. If the source needs a cutout, prepare and approve that cutout before judging its enlarged edge.

7. Keep a transparent master

Save the source, the approved PNG output, and any flattened delivery copy separately. A website or messaging service may convert an uploaded image, so inspect the downloaded destination copy as well. This browser workflow is an 8-bit canvas export, not a promise to preserve 16-bit precision, animation, embedded metadata, or a specialist color-managed production file.

Questions before exporting

Does the PNG upscaler keep transparency?

The tested PNG workflow retains fully and partly transparent pixels. Choose PNG and inspect the actual download; an opaque source will not gain transparency just by being enlarged.

Why did my background become white?

Check the selected output format and the exported file. This tool flattens JPEG onto white. Some viewers also display a transparent PNG on a white surface without changing the file.

Is this AI upscaling?

No. This workflow uses local browser resampling with smoothing, not an AI reconstruction model.

Will a transparent logo become a vector?

No. The output remains a raster PNG with a larger pixel grid.
